Assyrian metropolitan visits Ahmadinejad

President Ahmadinejad welcomes Metropolitan Mar Gewargis Sliwa at the Presidential Palace.

In a meeting in Tehran with one of the leaders of the Assyrian Church of the East on Monday, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the salvation of mankind and the establishment of peace and tranquility in the world was the aim of all divine prophets.
"Today, (we) the followers of divine prophets, including those of the prophets Moses and Jesus and the Prophet of Islam, must link hands and, by following their teachings, realize the wishes of these prophets," Ahmadinejad told Mar Gewargis Sliwa, the Metropolitan of all Iraq and Russia, who is on a visit to Iran from his seat in Baghdad.

European Parliament elections: Nineveh University - vote for Esther de Lange!
On May 17th, 2009 , Esther de Lange spoke about her activities with the Assyrian Association in Enschede (Netherlands). These were not the usual words of a politician, campaigning for the upcoming EU Parliamentary elections.. She spoke, rather, about the “Assyrians in Iraq” conference which she and her party organized in cooperation with the Assyria Council of EU . She informed the attendees about her past meetings with Assyrians over the years, and the attention she has given to the Assyrian question in Iraq. She also spoke about the need for a university for the Nineveh Plains. And to illustrate this, she wore a T-shirt of Assyrian Heritage which she received from the Assyrians in the European Parliament to illustrate her point: The Assyrians in Assyria need a Nineveh Plains University!

The Assyria Foundation - Netherlands received a phonecall from the Assyrian monastery of St Gabriel in Northern Assyria, Turkey, informing us about the victory in the first trial against the accusations and allegations by the muslim neighbourins regarding the landregistrations.
The secretary of the St Gabriel monastery personally delivered this news in a phonecall this morning. He thanked all the Assyrians in the Netherlands for their continues support and asked us to not only pray but also update ourselves actively regarding the other two trials that have been postponed for another month. "The Assyrian monastery Mor Gabriel is the "Jerusalem" of the Assyrians from Tur Abdin!", said the secretary of the St Gabriel monastery.
